Meet CLASI Managing Attorney, Jayce Lesniewski!
I am the Managing Attorney for the Kent and Sussex County offices and I am the Poverty Program Attorney in Sussex County. I represent survivors of domestic violence, primarily in helping them obtain Protection from Abuse Orders in Family Court, and I represent tenants in Federally subsidized housing, primarily in defending against eviction actions.
I went to law school at William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It was a very public service oriented law school so I came out of law school with the inclination toward service. After law school, I interned with the Delaware Department of Justice in Sussex County before entering into private practice for a few years. I then spent some time as an Assistant Public Defender with the Office of Defense Services in Wilmington before I was hired at CLASI.
I feel that pretty much every case that I handle makes a difference in someone’s life: from helping a survivor of domestic violence get safety, relief, and peace of mind, to helping keep a family off the streets. If I had a magic wand, I would create a universal acceptance of the idea that housing is a basic human right and the corresponding societal will to ensure that all people have good, quality housing.
