Why Does Legal Profession Resist Evidence Regarding Access to Justice?

June 1, 2017 by Lisa Lessner

Nationwide, funding for legal services is limited. To make sure those limited funds are used most effectively, it is important to study what works and what doesn’t work. The Access to Justice Lab at Harvard Law School is conducting four studies using randomized control trials: financial distress, default in debt collection cases, intimate partner violence, and pre-trial release.

Investment in studies such as these will help improve services and direct scarce resources as well as build public support regarding the impact of legal services. Read more about the work of Harvard Law professor James Greiner and his staff.
